An-My Lê is a Vietnamese-American photographer. She left her native Vietnam as a fifteen-year-old political refugee and grew up in France and the United States. Her photography reveals her fascination for warfare. The book presents three series from her extensive body of work:
Small Wars follows Vietnam War reenactors in North Carolina;
29 Palms records the training of US Marines in preparation for service in Iraq; and
Events Ashore focuses on the US Army’s peacetime missions.
An-My Lê’s photographs are about war in peacetime. Ethereal images, in which beauty and menace meet.
