Tabulae is a series of four abstract prints by Guy Leclercq that refer to the table, a motif that recurs frequently in his work.
The prints are made using a relief printing technique (cardboard print) in which the printing ink is spread on both the higher and the lower areas of the corrugated cardboard. This results during printing in a difference in texture – the background is grainy, the table is smooth. The deep black shapes are demarcated by lines with a yellowish-gold glow (produced by mixing a few drops of rum with the printing ink). The result is an exceptionally tactile and sensual work in which geometry and lyricism meet.
The prints were made one by one during the summer of 2013 by Guy Leclercq himself in his studio and are based on unique designs. The slowness and care with which the process is carried out contribute to the quality of this extraordinary series.
